This photo reminds me of a scene from Hans Christian Anderson's The Little Mermaid. The scene is when the mermaid goes up to the surface and drinks the potion the sea witch gave her, thus acquiring legs. If I remember correctly, the mermaid drinks the potion while she sits on a rock and after she drinks the potion, she undergoes a painful transformation.
